Neutrogena Hydro Boost Range

Hi beauty babes, I hope that you are all doing well and keeping safe. I struggle with dry skin especially during winter and one range that has always helped me get through the dry, cold season has been the Neutrogena Hydro Boost range. I have reviewed their very first range which you can read all about here, since then Neutrogena has added four new products to their Hydro Boost range giving us more options. The products that form part of the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost range are: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Awakening Gel-Cream, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule-in-serum Supercharged Booster and Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25 and also the Neutrogena Hydro Boost – The Super Hydrator Hydrogel Recovery Mask which I will tell you all about in a different post.

I’m going to be telling about each of their four new products in the order that I recommend that they should be used, to ensure that you get the optimal use and results from each product.

The Hydro Boost range comes in a blue packaging emphasising hydration which is what the range offers for dry, tight feeling skin. The products are easy to spot on the shelves and easy to differentiate from the other Neutrogena ranges.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel is an innovative gel/face wash with soft, naturally derived microbeads that gently yet effectively exfoliates and removes impurities whilst delivering a boost of hydration.

The combination of Neutrogena cleansing technology, hydrating agent and Hyaluronic Acid which is naturally found in skin (helps retain moisture), help the formula to protect the skin barrier, boost hydration and help lock it in.

The Exfoliator Smoothing Gel is suitable for daily use unlike exfoliators which are recommended to use 2-3 times a week. It is soap free, oil-free and suitable for sensitive skin.

The Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel comes in a blue 150ml tube, it has a blue strip across the middle stating that it is a ‘smoothing gel’ each product from this range has a colour strip across the packaging to differentiate their uses (eg. Blue strip for cleansing products), the tube has a white flip cap that is not flimsy and safely secures the product in so there’s no leakage. The Smoothing Gel itself is clear, has a gel-like texture and it has tiny white microbeads which is not clear in the picture below. The Gel has the signature Hydro Boost scent, if you have tried any of the Hydro Boost products you will know what I’m talking about, the scent is beautiful (I can’t really describe it, it’s just beautifully fresh), not overpowering and does not irritate my sensitive skin.

The Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel  is used like you would any other face wash, gently massage onto damp skin, using circular movements. Rinse thoroughly and then, for best results follow with the rest of the Hydro Boost products in the range. The Smoothing Gel lathers up well, the microbeads gently cleanses my skin and after rinsing – my skin feels smooth, soft and slightly hydrated yet thoroughly cleansed without the moisture being stripped away.

I love this product, it works well, slightly hydrates my skin and cleanses it well, prepping it for the next step in my skincare routine and it’s 2-in-1 a face wash and exfoliator that is not too abrasive on the skin and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth.

After cleansing I used the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Micellar Water which you can read more about here, just to make sure that no other double cleanse product from another brand messes up with my Hydro Boost results.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Awakening Gel-Cream

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Awakening Gel-Cream helps you kick-start your day with a refreshing shot of hydration that works in three ways for a refreshed look that won’t give away your busy days.

  • A shot of intense hydration that instantly replenishes the skin around the under-eye area using Hyaluronic Gel Matrix to boost hydration and strengthen the skin barrier.
  • A boost of freshness: Its lightweight gel formula awakens tired eyes and helps fade away signs of fatigue while instantly absorbing into skin to smartly smooth the skin for make-up.
  • Locks in hydration for 24 hours to prevent loss of suppleness and keep eyes looking fresh every day.
  • 24hr hydration.

The Eye-Awakening Gel-cream comes in a blue box with a green strip across the middle stating what the product is. Enclosed is a 15ml tube with a white screw top lid safely securing the product in, the tube has a pointed applicator to apply the gel-cream from the tube straight to the eye area. The product itself is milky white and has a gel-cream texture, it has a very slight scent not the same signature Hydro Boost scent as the rest of the range. The Eye-Awakening Gel-cream quickly absorbs into the skin, only a small amount is needed as it is thin in texture and spreads easily. It doesn’t have an awakening cooling/soothing sensation as I expected and doesn’t feel very hydrating but feels moisturising.

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye-Awakening Gel-cream is used in the same way you would use any other eye cream, apply sparingly with fingertips from the top of your cheekbone and circle around your eyes. You don’t want to apply it too close to the eyes.

Its handbag-friendly size is convenient to carry with you during the day for a shot of hydration on the go. I must admit that I was a little disappointed with this product as I expected a bit of a cooling effect, maybe if it was a complete gel formula it would offer that and lastly I didn’t find this product to be very hydrating for my dry eye area however it did provide some moisturisation on the surface.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule-In-Serum Supercharged Booster

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule-in-serum Supercharged Booster is newer to the range, it re-energises and supercharges the skin. It is infused with Hyaluronic Acid delivering 24hrs of hydration. The  pearlescent pearl’s or exfoliators inside the bottle contain antioxidants and revitalising Vitamin E that is dispensed into the serum as you pump it out, maintaining its efficacy until the moment of use. The formula intensely rehydrates, helps smooth away dry lines and instantly illuminates tired skin.

The product comes in a see through 30ml plastic pump bottle. It’s a very pretty product to look at as the pearlescent pearl’s shimmer in the sun. The serum comes out clear white with some glittery white spots, the pearls go into the pump tube and mixes with the clear formula, it has almost a oil/serum feel and has the signature Neutrogena Hydro Boost scent.

To use you can apply it straight onto your skin or add 2-3 drops to your favourite Hydro Boost moisturiser on the palm of your hand and apply as per your usual moisturising routine.

The product spreads easily and absorbs quickly into the skin, it has a very subtle hardly visible glow/shimmery finish on the face. Two pumps is more than enough for my face, neck and chest area when used alone or mixed into my moisturiser. Once the serum is completely absorbed into the skin it has a tacky finish which makes it the perfect base for makeup as it works well as a primer.

I like to use the Capsule-in-serum at night for extra hydration as my skin tends to get oily throughout the day when used in the morning. When mixed with my Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion the texture of the serum changes to a thinner almost water consistency. Using it this way still absorbs well and gives me instant hydration with less of a glowy look. If you are in a hurry it’s more convenient to mix the serum into your moisturiser.

Overall, I love this product it does what it offers – providing me with intense hydration but if you are not wearing makeup after applying this product the tacky feeling can get a bit much but almost disappears once a moisturiser is applied over.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

A busy lifestyle and the challenging environments such as pollution, harsh weather and sun exposure can deteriorate both skin’s hydration levels and skin’s natural protective shield. This can cause premature skin aging and loss of radiance.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25 boosts hydration and strengthens skin’s defences:

  • Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, this lotion not only replenishes skin with a boost of intense hydration, it also strengthens the skin barrier day after day so it can actively defend against external aggressions.
  • Helps defend skin against pollution: its formula containing Antioxidant helps protect the skin from pollution damage and preserve its youthful glow.
  • Protects against sun damage: developed with Helioplex that delivers superior protection against harmful UVB and UVA that can cause premature ageing.

The hydrating lotion comes in a blue box with an orange strip across the center stating what the product is. Enclosed is  a 50ml flat tube with a white flip lid that safely secures the product. The lotion itself is light blue in colour and has the same pleasant signature Hydro Boost scent as the rest of the range. The Hydrating Lotion has a slightly thick and creamy texture which spreads easily and absorbs quickly leaving my skin feeling moisturised,  instantly hydrated and glowing. You would use it as you would any other moisturiser, apply every morning with circular movements as the last step of your Hydro Boost routine.

The lotion is ultralight on the skin and non-greasy making it the perfect texture to use as a base before makeup.

Overall my face hasn’t been as oily as it usually is, my skin feels supple, soft and has a smooth even texture. I broke out in the 3rd week of using this range maybe because my skin was trying to get use to the new products but after the 3rd week my skin was clear. I use to have dry spots on my face that were highlighted and visible under makeup but I haven’t had any more dry spots since using the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Range. This range has been my winter saviour!
