Avon Complexion Products & Makeup Tools

Hey everyone I hope that you are all doing well and keeping safe. It’s been a while since I’ve posted any makeup reviews, I didn’t feel like it was appropriate to do any beauty related reviews during this time as we were all trying to process the COVID-19 pandemic, I did however share some makeup looks that I’ve been doing to keep myself busy and express my creativity which you can have a look at here. I also didn’t want to do any makeup reviews in case any of you wanted to purchase the products and couldn’t because of lockdown restrictions but some makeup is being sold now, I’m not too sure if Avon is selling and delivering makeup but I do know that you can order essential skincare products from them.

Today I want to tell you about some of Avon’s Complexion products and makeup tools that I received a while ago, I also received some eye and lip products so I decided to split my reviews into two categories: Complexion Products & Makeup Tools and Eyes & Lips.  I’ve shared makeup looks on Instagram that I have created with these products leading up to this review. I’m going to be telling you about each product in the order that I use them. The Avon products that I’m going to be telling you about are: Avon True Headband, Avon True Flawless Ultramatte Cream-To-Powder Foundation, Avon True Colour Flawless Cream-To-Powder Foundation,  Avon True Colour Flawless Concealer Stick, Avon 2-in-1 Brush, Avon Fan Brush, Avon Applicator Brush and Avon True Colour Luminous Blush.

Avon True Headband

I know that a headband does not fall under complexion products but it could possibly fall under makeup tools/accessories as it’s perfect to keep your hair away from your face when applying makeup, like I did in the pictures in this post. I also use this headband when applying on a face mask and under my shower cap before taking a shower. I love that the headband is made out of towel material and has velcro strips on each end so you can adjust it to how tight or loose you want it to be. It’s also thin and not chunky making it easy for the shower cap to go over it without exposing the hairline like it would with chunky headbands. I think all of us ladies own at least one headband.

Avon True Colour Flawless Cream-To-Powder Foundation

I received the Avon True Colour Flawless Cream-To-Powder Foundation in two shades: Honey Beige and Medium Beige. I normally use the Liquid Foundation in this range in the shade Medium Beige which is my perfect winter shade. I was excited to try out these foundations as I’ve never used a compact cream-to-powder foundation before, I usually opt for liquid and stick foundations. The cream-to-powder foundation range offers medium to full coverage with a light powder finish, it’s quick and easy to apply, the solid makeup transforms to liquid upon application and dries down to an even powder-light finish, it evens out the skin tone, minimizes pores and improves skin texture. The range also has Invisiblend Technology to perfectly match your skin tone, it stays on for 8hours and lastly it contains SPF15.

PicsArt_05-06-08.34.44

The foundations come in square black boxes with the Avon logo and silver text, enclosed is a sleek black compact, to open up you push the front part in (a little type of push-button on the front side) and the lid opens up to the pressed cream foundation, the compact has a nice clear mirror. The foundation lifts up revealing a round sponge applicator at the bottom in a separate compartment. This packaging makes it easy for popping the foundation into your handbag for touch ups throughout the day it has everything needed, a mirror and an applicator. I love the packaging even though it gets dirty easily (fingerprints and makeup) because it has a shiny finish, it can be wiped clean just as easily. The foundation has a slight scent that most face creams have but it’s not noticeable.

I’m not a fan of sponge applicators that come with makeup products but I wasn’t sure how to apply this compact foundation and the sponge is the only thing that made sense. I used the shade Honey Beige as it is the closest match to my skin tone even though it has pink/cool tones. Medium Beige which has a more neutral tone will work better for me when my skin looks pale during winter. I feel that I can get away with both neutral and warm/golden tone foundations as I have a neutral undertone but the Honey Beige even though it has pink tones seems to work for me.

PicsArt_05-06-05.45.31

The foundation has a soft creamy texture, it applies on smoothly and evenly with the sponge, I wouldn’t say that it transformed into a liquid like texture upon application as promised but stayed as a light creamy formula which made it easy to spread evenly, it did as promised – dry down to a powder-light finish. The foundation has a sheer coverage that can be built up slightly if you tap the sponge into more product and with a tapping motion go over places that require more coverage. I found that this foundation highlights my skin texture so I went in with a stippling brush just to blend it more into the skin but the beauty blending sponge did the trick which I’ll tell you about later in this post. I don’t get a matte finish with this foundation but more of a dewy finish which I like, it’s more natural while evening out my skin tone.

PicsArt_05-06-08.37.50

Even though I’m not a fan of the sponge applicator provided I feel that it works well with this pressed cream foundation formula, the only problem I have with it, is that it’s difficult to clean as they stain easily and the foundation stains don’t come off with my trusty brush and sponge cleanser. The sponge ended up tearing when trying to wash it. So next time I would rather use a blending sponge or stippling brush which also means less germs. Other than that I think this foundation is perfect for everyday use for a more natural look.

Avon True Colour Flawless Concealer Stick

I received the Avon True Colour Flawless Concealer Stick in the shade N3-01 which has a neutral tone, I’m not too sure how the Avon numbers and shades work but this is the perfect shade for my skin tone. The Flawless Concealer Stick helps cover dark circles, flaws and blemishes. It is formulated with True Blue Colour IQ Technology and light-diffusing pigments for flawless, natural-looking coverage. It’s a targeted stick for easy application. It’s blendable, creamy and the oil-free formula builds and blends easily without blocking the pores.

The concealer stick has a plastic wrapping over it that can easily be pulled off revealing a sleek, shiny, plain black twist tube. The lid pulls off revealing the concealer which looks like lipstick, it is slanted so that the top allows for closer application along the lash line while the bottom thick and flatter part covers more surface area when gliding the concealer around the eye area. To get more product out of the stick/tube all you have to do is twist the tube exactly like you would a lipstick tube

PicsArt_05-06-08.02.36

The next step in my makeup routine after applying on the Avon True Colour Flawless Cream-to-powder Foundation is applying the Avon True Colour Flawless Concealer Stick under my eye area and on my eyelids if I plan on wearing eyeshadow as it acts like an eyeshadow primer creating a perfect even base.

PicsArt_05-06-05.47.02

The concealer has a soft, smooth cream texture, it doesn’t have a scent, it applies on easily, I really like that I don’t need a concealer brush to apply it on and can use it directly from the tube. It blends in easily with my fingertips and the warmth of my fingertips allows the product to move around and spread more easily so you don’t end up using too much product. The concealer gives me a natural sheer coverage and a bit of a brightening effect while concealing my dark circles. The concealer is buildable if more coverage is needed. I also like to use this concealer to cut my crease by dipping in a small flat brush into the concealer, it surprisingly works really well as a cut-crease concealer.

PicsArt_05-06-08.04.41

I really love how light-weight this concealer is, it doesn’t feel heavy and cakey but natural as if I haven’t applied anything, it also doesn’t crease, fade and wear off throughout the day. I love how buildable this concealer is and that it not only conceals but brightens up my eye area. This is one of my favourite concealers to use over my foundation, under my eyeshadow as a base and even on it’s own when I don’t feel like using any foundation but want to cover up my dark circles and brighten up around my eyes. I highly recommend it.

Avon True Flawless Ultramatte Cream-To-Powder Foundation

I received the Avon True Flawless Ultramatte Cream-To-Powder Foundation in the shades: Natural Beige and Light Caramel. I don’t have information on this foundation and can’t seem to find anything on it but what I can tell you from the  name is that this range offers a matte finish.

PicsArt_05-06-08.20.17

The packaging is the same as the Avon True Colour Flawless Cream-To-Powder Foundation, the only way to differentiate the two is the name on the box, it says Ultramatte in matte black on the box if you look closely as it’s not very noticeable.

PicsArt_05-06-08.36.24

Unfortunately both the shades that I received don’t match my skin tone and I was really looking forward to trying this foundation as I have oily skin and wanted to put the matte finish to the test. I however used the foundations to contour and brighten.

PicsArt_05-06-08.38.36

The Ultramatte Natural Beige is very light and has a neutral tone, this shade is perfect for all my fair babes. I used this shade to brighten up under my eyes and highlight the bridge of my nose, forehead, brow bone, cupid’s bow, chin and along my jawline. This shade brightened and highlighted well while still giving me a natural look even though this foundation is more medium to full coverage and has a matte finish.

PicsArt_05-06-05.48.26

The shade Light Caramel is a shade darker than my skin tone and has very warm/yellow/golden tones. I think I could possibly get away with this shade if I use it when I have a bit of a tan or if I use it with a concealer that’s two shades lighter than my skin tone to balance the shade on my skin,  I’ll try this out and if it works out I’ll post pictures on my Instagram and let you know how the formula works for oily skin. I used this shade to contour under my cheekbones, along my hair and jawline, along the bridge of my nose and along the curve of my chin. This shade was too light for contouring once I applied it on but it added some warm golden tones to my face which I needed with that cool tone foundation shade.

PicsArt_05-06-05.49.53

The Ultramatte foundation range has a thicker and creamier consistency compared to the other range. It blends in beautifully without highlighting my skin texture and has a nice matte finish. It blends in seamlessly with the Avon blending sponge and offers medium to full coverage making it more pigmented than the previously mentioned foundation range. I wish I had this foundation in my shade as I love the texture and finish but I will somehow make these shades work for me or use them on my clients.

Avon Makeup Brushes

I have never tried Avon makeup brushes before and was excited to try these out. Firstly, I’m obsessed with rose gold and secondly the brushes feel light and the bristles are super soft. The design is so simple yet eye-catching with the handles being sleek and shiny, rose gold in colour while the bristles are pink and white, the colour combination is just perfect. There are four brushes in this range but I only received three which are:

  • 2-in-1 Brush: this is a dual-ended brush one side has a blending sponge applicator which is used to apply and blend foundations, concealer and powder. The other end is a fluffy brush that can be used to apply on blush, bronzer and powder and also to remove any excess powder when baking.

PicsArt_05-06-05.21.10

  • Fan Brush: this brush can be used to remove any excess powder or eyeshadow fallout, to define facial contours and to apply highlighter.

PicsArt_05-06-05.33.30

  • Small Applicator Brush: this brush is for more targeted application because of its pointy tip. It can be used to blend eyeshadow or apply highlighter.

PicsArt_05-06-05.37.48

All three brushes work well, they apply and blend makeup effortlessly without scratching the face and the bristles don’t fall out and keep its shape.

PicsArt_05-06-05.19.59

The blending sponge applicator works well with foundation and concealer when damp so before using it with my Avon foundations and concealer I first wet the sponge trying not to get the fluffy brush on the other end wet as I use it for powder products (blush and bronzer). The sponge slightly expanded but also felt like it was going to fall off from the handle as it’s super soft and the weight from the water made it weak at the base. The sponge helped blend in my foundation giving me a flawless, airbrushed look. The only problem I have with this sponge is that it’s very weak and started to tear at base when wetting it, squeezing it and using it and it was very difficult to wash it as it is very floppy and flimsy and continues to tear at the base. I would love to see this sponge alone or as a whole blending sponge not attached to a handle or as a dual-ended brush.

PicsArt_05-06-05.22.18

PicsArt_05-06-06.02.41

The fluffy brush on the other end feels soft and fluffy and works well at applying and blending in my blush and bronzers. It is easy to clean but difficult to store as the sponge gets more damaged when put into my makeup brush holder, again I would prefer them to be separated.

PicsArt_05-06-05.31.41

PicsArt_05-06-05.59.18

The fan brush is very soft and works well at applying and blending my highlighter. Although it’s  not as thick as I like my fan brushes to be it works perfectly. I prefer to use a fan brush for highlighter application and sometimes to remove excess powder under my eyes when baking or when there is any eyeshadow fallout not to define and contour.

PicsArt_05-06-05.35.36

PicsArt_05-06-05.57.59

The applicator brush is very strange looking, I’ve never seen a brush like this before. The bristles are very long and has a tapered tip. I like to use this brush to apply and blend eyeshadow on my outer v and crease as the tapered tip allows for more concentrated colour in the outer v and and the crease. I find that this brush is just perfect for eyeshadow application than it is for the other uses I’ve mentioned above.

PicsArt_05-06-05.38.31

PicsArt_05-06-06.01.17

I highly recommend these brushes as the quality is amazing even after washing these brushes they remain the same shape and the brittles still remain intact and super soft. They are also very affordable, I really wish that Avon could make eyeshadow brush sets keeping to the rose gold theme 😉.

Avon True Colour Luminous Blush

I was really happy to receive this blush in the shade Soft Plum as I’ve always wanted to add a purple shade of blush to my collection to match with my purple eyeshadows and lipsticks.

Avon True Colour Luminous Blush offers a pop of colour that illuminates your features and goes on soft and silky smooth. The sheer blush is long wearing and buildable, ensuring that your luminous look lasts all day. The benefits of this blush is: fresh looking colour, leaves face looking radiant, goes on silky smooth, long-wearing and the compact includes a mirror.

PicsArt_05-06-08.07.27

The blush comes in a square black box with the Avon logo in silver and silver text just like the foundation boxes only this box is a little flatter, enclosed is a sleek black compact which opens up the same way that the compact foundations open. Inside is a nice clear mirror and half of the compact has the pressed blush and the other half has a little brush compartment with a small blush brush.

PicsArt_05-06-08.08.24

PicsArt_05-06-08.09.19

The blush is a pretty soft purple/lavender colour with slight hints of sparkle (superfine colour shifting glitter). It blends well and evenly. The small blush brush is a bit scratchy and the bristles come off so I prefer to use the rose gold fluffy brush instead as it picks up more product and gently applies and blends it onto my cheeks without any bristles fallout. The blush is very pigmented on the cheeks so I suggest that you go light handed with this blush, it shows purple/lavender in the pan but a little pinkish purple on the cheeks but it’s still a stunning colour. Although this blush is highly pigmented with just one swipe the pigment is still very buildable so you can layer as much as you like to get your desired intensity, always be careful not to go too wild with purple blush as it can look like you got punched in the face and none of us want people thinking we got into a fight or anything else. This blush shade is perfect for pink, purple and neutral makeup looks. I love that the blush compact contains everything that’s needed – a mirror and brush, making it perfect to pop into your handbag and take with you on your travels.

Overall I’m really impressed with all the Avon products, some more than others. Keep an eye out for my Avon Eyes and Lips blog post next week, I’m excited to share my thoughts with you on the rest of their product’s 😃.
