A lot of products contain harmful ingredients that can dry and damage skin causing rashes and long term damage, so when it comes to my skin I prefer to use products with natural ingredients that my sensitive skin will benefit from. I’ve been trying out a new brand of natural skincare products that contains no nasties and will be telling you all about their Unrefined Shea Butter Moisturiser today and how it has worked for my dry and sensitive skin this winter. Firstly I would like to introduce you to Nina Malanje.
Nina Malanje is a natural skincare brand dedicated to offering high quality, handmade products that your skin and hair will love. Each product is handmade using only the finest, natural, high quality ingredients that are ethically and sustainably sourced primarily from Southern Africa. Nina Malanje products are all free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance and artificial colours and they do not test on animals (which is the most important thing for me as I’m a huge animal lover). Rich in earthly goodness, their Shea Butter collection contains natural Vitamins A, E, and F with healing properties for your skin, and is ideal to treat a variety of skin conditions including sunburns, dry skin, and blemishes. Their packaging is also eco-friendly and recyclable.
Not only are Nina Malanje products natural, handmade and eco-friendly but they also give back to the community. Nina Malanje are proud partners with Ajike Shea Centre, located in Savelugu, Northern Ghana, ASC is a social enterprise which empowers rural women in Ghana. With every purchase of their Shea Butter products you are supporting and empowering rural women who are the backbones of their families.
Nina Malanje believes that their “less ingredients, more beauty” mantra will make you look as well as feel good, naturally.
Nina Malanje Unrefined Shea Butter
The Unrefined Shea Butter is a head-to-toe moisturiser that comes in a black 473ml tub with
a screw on/off lid and has white text with the simple yet timeless Nina Malanje logo on the top which stands out on the packaging. The packaging is sleek and simple. The tub is nice and big which means more product which lasts longer.
The butter has a very raw, organic, natural scent and look as no artificial fragrance and colours are added to the formula. The natural scent takes some getting use to but it’s not overpowering and doesn’t make your body smell weird when it’s applied, it kind of wears off after a while. I actually love that it’s fragrance free, sometimes products contain amazing ingredients which have healing properties and suitable for all skin conditions but because of the added artificial fragrance it can irritate the skin which was my recent experience.
The Unrefined Shea Butter has a hard texture and needs to be scraped out of the tub but it immediately softens and melts with the warmth of your hands, I’ve taken pictures of the butter in my hands with and without the flash so you can see how it just melts from the warmth of my hands and also see the consistency of the butter once I’ve rubbed my hands together. Once melted it has a soft, creamy and oily texture, the product absorbs easily but a lot more than a pea size amount is needed to spread the product everywhere as it has a thick texture. My skin immediately feels hydrated and moisturised with a slight oily finish, although the cream is a bit oily it doesn’t feel greasy, sticky or uncomfortable on my skin but light and nourishing.
I love how healthy my skin looks and feels when using this product and the hydration is long-lasting even after taking a hot shower the next day my skin still feels smooth and hydrated which is so surprising as hot showers strip the skin’s moisture resulting in very dry irritated skin but with the Unrefined Shea Butter the moisture and hydration is locked into my skin. Very impressive! The only ingredient that the moisturiser contains is Butyrospermum Parkii which is Pure Unrefined Shea Butter, no added nasties or anything else just pure and organic Shea Butter.
I’m absolutely loving this product not only because it feels so great on my skin and keeps it hydrated all day long but mainly because it is 100% natural making it ideal for my skin condition (eczema) which also means I have no flare-ups when using it and it is paraben-free, contains no artificial fragrance and colours so it doesn’t irritate my skin and it is cruelty-free and eco-friendly which is very important to me when choosing a product. My skin feels amazing and has a beautiful natural glow, this is the perfect moisturiser for winter but can be used all year round.
The only thing I would change or rather add to the product is a scoop like one of those wooden ones that comes with bath salts or even just an ice-cream stick to scrape the product out of the tub. Other than that I’m very impressed with the Nina Malanje Unrefined Shea Butter Head-To-Toe Moisturiser it has been a much needed treat for my dry, sensitive, eczema prone skin.
Soon I will be trying out Nina Malanje’s Pure Shea Body Butter with Pomegranate, Pomegranate Seed Oil (you all know how much I love hair, facial and body oils and this oil is all-in-one) and lastly Nina Malanje’s new addition the African Black Soap which is made from Cocoa Pod and infused with Coconut Oil and is ideal for treating acne, eczema and psoriasis. I’m very excited to try everything and report back to you on the results.
The Unrefined Shea Butter retails for R270.00 and can be found in Yan Health Bedford Centre, Health Wake Up in Eastgate and online at Faithful-to-nature.
