Earlier this year Dove introduced a new member to its family, Baby Dove. The new Baby Dove consists of two ranges the Baby Dove Moisture Range which has baby blue and white on the packaging and the Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Range which has white lids and the labels are green to differentiate the two ranges. I don’t have a baby and not expecting one any time soon but have tested both the ranges on my skin as I have very dry, sensitive skin and often get eczema flare-ups. I find that baby products are much more gentle and milder on my skin, I have been using baby products for almost all my life.
I was lucky enough to attend the Baby Dove launch in Cape Town where we were introduced to the new products and seen how well they work and how well they work against competitor baby products. Not only did we get the opportunity to see first hand the quality of the products but we were also introduced to the Baby Dove Campaign which is all about encouraging moms to trust their way of parenting “There are no perfect moms. Only real ones”.
Baby Dove consists of ten head to toe products, seven of those products form part of the Baby Dove Moisture Range while three form part of the Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Range. All products are hypoallergenic, pH neutral, gentle on the eyes, paediatrically and dermatologically tested and ophthalmologically approved.
The skin forms a vital barrier that protects us from the outside world, baby’s skin needs unique care because it is much more fragile than ours. Baby’s skin is 30% thinner, loses moisture up to 5X faster, it is much more susceptible to lipid loss and up to 2X less natural moisturising factor (NMF), even mild cleansing can lead to dryness. The fragility of baby’s skin means that it needs active cleansing and moisturising care to protect it and keep it hydrated and healthy. Baby Dove’s range of products go beyond mildness to help replenish essential moisture and nutrients in baby’s skin, helping to keep it moisturised.
Baby Dove Rich Moisture Range
The Rich Moisture range is developed for babies with normal to dry skin. This range is hypoallergenic with pH neutral cleansers and a fragrance specially developed for baby’s delicate skin. Even though it is lightly scented this range can also be used on babies with sensitive skin as the products are still mild enough and does not irritate the skin.
The seven products that form part of this range are: Baby Dove Rich Moisture Head to Toe Wash, Baby Dove Rich Moisture Bar, Baby Dove Rich Moisture Shampoo, Baby Dove Rich Moisture Lotion, Baby Dove Rich Moisture Petroleum Jelly, Baby Dove Rich Moisture Nappy Cream and Baby Dove Rich Moisture Wipes.
The Head to Toe Wash helps retain baby’s natural skin moisture all day. It helps replenish the essential moisture and nutrients of the skin lost through bathing and helps preserve the skin’s barrier function.
This product has a soft pleasant almost floral scent and foams up quite nicely, it is thick in texture and only a small amount is needed. It gently cleanses my skin and leaves my skin feeling soft without drying it out. This is one of my favourite products from the Baby Dove Moisture Range.
The Baby Dove Head to Toe Wash comes in a cute rounded pear shaped pump bottle it is convenient and easy to use, the Head to Toe Wash is available in 200ml which retails for R38.99 and 400ml which retails for R64.99.
This is a bar of soap much smaller than the original ‘adult’ Dove bar’s (Baby Dove Bar is 75g whereas the original Dove Bars are 100g), it comes in a box just like the normal Dove bars and has the same shape but has a mommy and baby Dove engraved on it which I find very cute ☺.
I am a fan of Dove bars, I remember my mom only using these bars when I was younger so when I got a bit older I added the Dove bar to my daily skincare regime they are so mild on my sensitive skin and with the ¼ moisturising cream factor it leaves my skin feeling moisturised and not stripped like most soaps do so I was excited to try out the Baby Dove Bar.
The Baby Dove Bar is milder and more nourishing than ordinary baby soaps. Unlike other baby bars Baby Doves Bar is rich in moisture and like the original Dove bars it contains ¼ moisturising cream and DEFI technology resulting in a unique blend of cleansers and moisturisers that leave delicate baby skin soft, nourished, and delicately scented. It also contains ingredients to replenish the essential nutrients that is lost during cleansing and to help preserve the skin’s barrier function meaning that more moisture and nutrients stay in. It has a mild and caring fragrance developed specifically for delicate baby skin, it is hypoallergenic plus it’s pH neutral formula respects skin’s natural pH balance.
The Baby Dove Bar has a pleasant scent just like the Head to Toe Wash. The soap foams up quite nicely, it gently cleanses my body while leaving it feeling moisturised and not dry. I love the long lasting gentle scent that it leaves on my skin, although it is scented it does not irritate my skin.
The Bar retails for R12.99 which is affordable.
Baby Dove shampoo comes in a 200ml and 400ml rounded pear shaped bottle. The shampoo is mild and helps keep baby’s hair and scalp soft and moisturised. Unlike other baby shampoo’s Doves Baby shampoo contains their ¼ moisturising cream, it is hypoallergenic and clinically proven to minimize allergy risks.
This shampoo has a beautiful scent and is thick and creamy in texture, pearly white in colour and foams up well and does not irritate the eyes when the foam accidentally washes into the eyes. This product doesn’t work so great on my hair as it leaves it feeling stiff but will work well on baby’s hair as their hair is softer and finer.
Moe enjoys using this product on his beard as it’s gentle on the face and does not irritate his skin and helps cleanse and make his beard feel soft. I also use this to clean my makeup brushes it cleanses it well without damaging the bristles.
This product is available in two sizes 200ml which retails for R49.99 and 400ml which retails for R69.99.
This lotion comes in a rounded 200ml bottle. The lotion gently moisturises baby’s skin for 24 hours/all day. It soothes dry skin from first use, provides superior moisturisation than leading brands. Baby Dove lotion leaves baby’s skin extra soft and it is delicately scented, the mild and caring fragrance is developed specifically for delicate baby skin.
This is another one of my favourite products from the Rich Moisture Range. It is not too thick or too thin in texture and spreads and absorbs into my skin quite easily leaving my skin feeling soft and moisturised. I do however have to reapply this product throughout the day as the moisture doesn’t last for 24 hours but I love the scent and love that it is gentle on my skin and doesn’t irritate my skin.
The Baby Dove Lotion is available in 200ml and retails for R48.99.
The Petroleum Jelly comes in a 100ml and 250ml tubs. This product soothes dry skin, locks in moisture all day and provides immediate protection from wetness that can lead to nappy rash.
The Baby Dove Petroleum Jelly has a beautiful scent compared to most petroleum jellies, this product is amazing it leaves my skin feeling moisturised and soft throughout the day so there’s no need to reapply it. Unlike most petroleum jellies this one does not leave the skin looking extremely shiny and feeling slippery, so it is not oily and greasy on the skin. It has a very nice buttery soft texture and only a small amount is needed as it spreads quite easily.
This has to be the best petroleum jelly that I’ve used, using this doesn’t mean that you have to walk around shining like a light bulb the entire day. I enjoy using this product all over my body and on my lips it really helps with dry chapped lips and dry skin. This jelly is so gentle on my skin and leaves my skin smelling great throughout the day without irritating it. The 100ml is also long lasting as you don’t need a lot of the product only a small amount will do.
The Baby Dove Petroleum Jelly 100ml retails for R17.99 which is a great price and a 250ml retails for R36.77.
The Baby Dove Nappy Cream comes in a 45g tube, it neutralises pH in seconds and immediately protects baby bottoms from diaper rash, irritation and provides instant comfort from first use.
This Nappy Cream contains skin protectants, zinc oxide (10%- active ingredient), dimethicone and mineral oil to form a protective layer that shields baby’s delicate skin from the causes of irritation. It leaves baby’s bottom soft and smooth, it is developed for baby’s delicate skin and ideal for daily use, it is also easier to spread than other diaper creams and easier to clean.
I use the Baby Dove Nappy Cream on my eczema flare-ups, it helps soothe my skin and protects it from getting wet and further inflamed, nappy cream works well on any type of skin rash, it also works well on razor burn from shaving, it works on chapped lips (I used this in winter on eczema flare-ups on my lips but it makes your lips very white so it’s best to use before going to bed). It can also be used in hot summer days under the breasts to keep it dry (if you have large breasts it can get sweaty under there) and lastly it can be used on scrapes and scratches to prevent it from getting wet when swimming. Nappy cream has so many uses and is perfect to have around in case of emergencies.
The Baby Dove Rich Moisture Nappy Cream retails for R34.99.
Baby Dove wipes comes in a resealable pack of 50 sheets. They are gentle as water and provide instant moisturisation for all over use. These baby wipes effectively removes impurities while instantly moisturising (contains glycerine) baby’s delicate skin. It is suitable for newborns and all over use and it is alcohol free.
These wipes are unlike any other wipes they are thick and won’t tear when using or even when pulled. Each wipe is nice and moist even after opening and resealing the pack many times it doesn’t dry out, the moisture is retained in the pack. I enjoy using these wipes to gently remove makeup as it works well and because it is nice and thick (it feels almost like a cloth) one goes a long way without breaking. It is gentle as water making it perfect to use on the eyes to remove any eye makeup without burning and irritating the eyes. I love that there are 50 sheets in one pack and that it comes at such an affordable price and the quality is great.
A pack of 50 sheets retail for R31.99 which is affordable.
Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Range
The Sensitive Moisture Range takes extra special care of babies with sensitive skin. This range is developed to help you care for your baby’s sensitive skin from head to toe, every product is mild and fragrance-free (or hypoallergenic).
The three products that form part of the Sensitive Moisture Range are: Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Head to Toe Wash, Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Lotion and Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Wipes.
The Head to Toe Wash is available in a 200ml and 400ml rounded pear shaped pump bottle making it easy to use in the bath and shower. The Baby Dove Head to Toe Wash is mild, gentle and helps retains baby’s natural skin moisture. It is mild on the skin helping to replenish the essential moisture and nutrients of the skin lost through bathing and helps preserve the skin’s barrier function.
This product gently cleanses my skin but leaves behind a slight weird almost plastic scent on my skin which I’m not a fan of. It works well without irritating or drying my skin but I don’t like the slight scent that it leaves behind. The Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Head to Toe Wash has the same texture as the Rich Moisture one and foams up just as nice.
Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Tip to Toe Wash 200ml retails for R38.99 and a 400ml retails for R64.99.
Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Lotion comes in a 200ml rounded bottle. It is fragrance-free and specifically developed for sensitive skin. It gently moisturises and soothes dry skin from first use.
The Sensitive Moisture Lotion moisturises my skin without irritating it but it has the same weird plastic scent as the Sensitive Moisture Top to Toe Wash. I don’t like the slight scent even though it works very well, my mom is enjoying this product on her very dry skin and has no problem with the scent. The Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Lotion has the same texture as the Rich Moisture one and works just as well.
The Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Lotion 200ml retails for R48.99.
These wipes come in a resealable pack of 50 just like the Baby Dove Rich Moisture Wipes. It is clinically proven to minimise allergy risks. It gently cleanses in an instant, effectively removes impurities while moisturising (contains glycerine) baby’s delicate skin. It is hypoallergenic with a pH neutral formula that keeps the skin in its natural condition.
These wipes are the same as the Baby Dove Rich Moisture Wipes but doesn’t have any scent, it gently cleanses the skin and removes makeup without drying out the skin, it keeps my skin feeling soft and moisturised after use.
A pack of 50 sheets retail for R31.99.
I love the thought that went into creating these products, none of the containers have any sharp pointed edges every container is rounded making it safe for baby to play with and the size is ideal for moms to hold while bathing and moisturising baby. The baby blue logo with the original dark blue Dove logo stands out against the white packaging, I absolutely love the two Doves in the Baby Dove logo which differentiates it from the ‘adult’ products. These products are of great quality and long lasting and keeps to the ¼ moisturising cream element which is what makes Dove unique to other products. I enjoy using the products and I’m sure moms will enjoy it too on their baby’s, the products are not harsh at all. I would really like to see Baby Dove tubs of cream in the future 😉.
To all the moms out there remember that no one knows your baby better than you do and Dove believes that this positive reinforcement is just what moms need to hear to be able to block out the noise and criticism and to listen and trust in yourself to look after your baby the right way.
