Hi ladies, i’m sure by now you have all seen the new Essence products in Dischem and Clicks I have reviewed some of the new products here. Today I will be telling you about the DIY Essence My Must Haves palette and reviewing some of their eyeshadows and more of their new products. I received a cute press drop from Essence which contained the My Must Haves 4-colour palette, three My Must Haves individual eyeshadows, Essence Glow and Care nailpolish, Essence Luminous Matt Bronzing Powder, Essence Shine Shine Shine Wet Look Gloss and Essence Volume Stylist 18h Lash Extension Mascara.
My Must Haves Palettes
Creating your own makeup palette has become very popular lately, I have seen so many brands which are doing this and so glad that Essence has joined in. We often buy makeup palettes and use some but not all of the colours everyday but thanks to the DIY palette system we don’t have to waste money on colours and products that we would not be using on a regular basis.
Essence offers two empty palettes one for four colours (‘4 of my most loved colours’) and a bigger one for eight colours these retail for R34.95. So you can basically create your own personalised multi-functional palette there’s a lot of individual products to choose from such as eyeshadows in different colours and effects, blushers, highlighters, bronzers, face powder and lip powders. Each individual colour/product is R34.95.
How does it work? It’s easy all you have to do is get an empty palette any one of the two and fill them with the individual products which come in a small pan that clicks into the palette.
My Must Haves Individual Eyeshadows
There are 20 individual colours to choose from, I received ‘08 peach-party!’ which is a shimmery peach colour, ‘06 raspberry frosting’ which at first sight was my favourite colour from all three, it is a light shimmery pink and ‘18 black as berry’ which is a deep plum colour. My palette needed another colour so I went out and got ‘16 dare to wear’ which is a beautiful matte blue.
Each eyeshadow comes in a cute little box each little pan has a lid on it so you could also just purchase the colours without the palette as the lid keeps them safely closed and they won’t open up in your makeup bag.
The colours pop nicely into the palettes and are secure they won’t move around. The eyeshadow colours are quite big so they are worth the price.
Let me go into more detail about each colour:
- ‘08 peach-party!’: is a shimmery peach colour which makes the perfect base colour and/or as a highlighter for the inner corner of the eyes and brow bone. It has silver shimmer but the colour itself is very light and not very pigmented but more shimmery.
- ‘06 raspberry frosting’: this is a pretty pink with silver shimmer but I found that the shimmer is more on top of the colour but not mixed into it which was a bit disappointing. The colour itself is very pretty and sparkly, not very pigmented but definitely buildable.
- ‘16 dare to wear’: is a blue matte colour which is pigmented when applied on but after blending it becomes very light and has a weird finish and almost changes in colour you can see in the swatches below.
- ‘18 black as a berry’: is a deep dark plum colour which is perfect to create a smokey eye. This shade is more pigmented than the others and has a beautiful almost metallic finish.
I found that the eyeshadows all had a lot of fall out which means that when I applied it to my lids a lot of the product fell onto my cheeks even though I dusted off excess product from the brush. I was not impressed with all the colours as not all blended very well. The formula of the eyeshadows are just a miss for me 🙁.
Glow and Care Luminous Nail Polish
I first fell in love with Essence because of their nail polishes and the amazing variety of colour and finishes that they offer.
Essence has a glow and care range enriched with caring kukui oil from Hawaii which helps strengthen and protect the nails which is definitely what I need right now as my nails are weak and brittle.
The Essence Glow and luminous nail polish comes in four different colours each have a gorgeous light shimmer effect which you can see in the picture taken with the flash. The luminous colour provides beautiful healthy looking nails in an instant.
I received ‘02 go for glow’ which is a dusty pink nude colour and has a lovely golden shimmer finish. I absolutely love this shade it’s perfect for everyday use and for any occasion, the brush is nice and thick which allows for quick, all over application in just one stroke. This shade is also very pigmented but can look patchy with one coat, two coats are perfect to get an even coverage. Each Glow and Care nail polish retails for R39.95.
Luminous Matt Bronzing Powder
Im such a fan of bronzers I feel that they just give the skin a healthy summery glow all year round.
The new Essence Luminous Matt Bronzing Powder comes in a big pan making it last longer as there’s more product. I’m crazy about the embossed pattern which made me a bit hesitant to dip my brush into, but I did ☺.
There are two shades available one for lighter skin tone ‘01 sunshine’ which I received and one for darker skin tones. Each bronzer contains light-reflecting pigments for a fresh naturally-tanned complexion. Each pan has two shades the outer circle is matte and darker than the inner circle shade and the middle is more shimmery which gives the skin a beautiful glow and could be used individually as a highlighter.
‘02 sunshine’ is a bit too light for me it almost blends into my skin but it does give my skin a radiant glow when both shades are used together. It is easy to blend and the pan retails for R64.96 which is not bad for the amount of product it contains.
Shine Shine Shine Wet Look Lipgloss
I’m so glad that lipgloss has made a come back I love my matte lipsticks but lipgloss and I go way back 😉.
Essence Shine Shine Shine Wet Look Lipgloss is available in many shades from nudes, intense bold colours and prism glow effects. I love the bolds as i’m always a fan of bright bold colours and find that they nicely complement my medium skin tone. I received the shade ‘12 runway, your way’ which is a very pretty bold purple shade.
I recently reviewed the bold pink colour which you can read about here. This shade is exactly the same in terms of formula and finish and has the same small slightly curved applicator which allows for precise application. The shade is pigmented, glossy and smells yummy too☺.
The prism glow effect lipglosses look good too I can’t wait to get my hands on one of the shades and see what the finish is like. Each tube retails for R44.95. Im impressed with these glosses so far.
Volume Stylist 18h Lash Extension Mascara
At the moment i’m crazy about brow products and mascaras which contain fibres in them. When it comes to mascara the fibres always gives lashes a fuller and longer natural look which I love.
This new Essence mascara contains lengthening fibres which can be seen on the applicator. If you look closely at the picture below you can see some of the tiny fibres on the top of the tube.
Firstly the packaging is so pretty I love the lid with the woven design which in my opinion represents the fibres that can be found in the mascara. The purple and black colours work so well together. I like that the tube is nice and big 12ml.
The mascara offers long and fuller lashes and up to 18 hours hold which I have not tested. I have seen the change in length and volume of my lashes when using the mascara in just one coat. You can see the difference with and without the mascara in the pictures below.
The formula is a bit thick so when using it always wipe off the excess to avoid any clumpiness. The wand is long and thin which is a classic fibre wand for density, it is diamond shaped to create long and fuller lashes. The mascara retails for R64.95 i’m impressed with this mascara as it gives my lashes volume and length without any clumps. My lashes look naturally long thanks to the fibres found in the mascara. This is definitely a must-have product and perfect for everyday use.
