Dermalogica SkinCare Routine Part 1

Earlier this year Moe and I joined Dermalogica having heard such amazing things about their products and also seeing the fantastic results from people who use Dermalogica products we were very excited to work with them and to get the Dermalogica glow that everyone at Dermalogica has ☺.

We attend the launch of the Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant and reformulated Age Reversal Eye Complex where we learnt so much about the ingredients that goes into their products and we got to have breakfast which contained those ingredients. We also had mini facials and were immediately in love with the instant results that we could not wait to get our skin mapping done and get the prescribed Dermalogica products for each of our skin concerns.

We did our face mapping at Dermalogica Eastgate where a skincare specialist asked us a few questions about our skin and the current products that we were using. She also analyzed our skin in different areas and told us what she sees and what products would work best for each of us. It was a quick and easy process and definitely a must before purchasing any of their products or even trying out any samples so that you get the right products for your skin.

My Dermalogica skincare routine consists of six products which are: The Special Cleansing Gel, Daily Superfoliant, Ultracalming Mist, Age Reversal Eye Complex, Barrier Repair and The Phyto-Replenish Oil (which was the very first Dermalogica product that I used click here for the review).

Before going in depth about each product it is important to know that each product is formulated without any artificial fragrances, colours and parabens which is important to me as I have very sensitive eczema prone skin. I like using products which have as many natural ingredients as possible and that does not contain any harmful ingredients which will damage my skin and Dermalogica is just that, all natural and gentle on the skin.

Special Cleansing Gel

The Special Cleansing Gel is a soap free foaming gel which can be used on all skin conditions. I prefer using a foaming face wash rather than the extra mild cream ones as I feel that the foam thoroughly cleanses my face. The cleansing gel removes impurities without stripping the skin of its natural moisture balance.

It is used the same way that any other face wash is used you basically lather a small amount of gel on moistened hands and apply to dampened face and throat. I like that it foams up nicely and only a pea sized amount is sufficient for the face and neck. After gently massaging it onto the face and neck you rinse it off with warm water. The gel is clear in colour and has a slight lavender scent. The gel gets rid of layers of excess oil, sunscreen, waterproof makeup, environmental pollutants and residual products which build up on the skin throughout the day. My skin does not feel dry but rather soft and well cleansed and it is not harsh on my skin.

How does it work? It contains Calming Balm Mint and Lavender Extracts which soothe the skin. It also contains Natural Quillaja Saponaria which gently foams away toxins and debris.

Daily Superfoliant

At the launch we got to play around with the products, I was so intrigued by this as it is a powder that when activated with water it foams up and thickens abit. Both Moe and I were amazed as we have never seen such a product before.

The Daily Superfoliant is a highly-active resurfacer which delivers your smoothest skin ever and helps fight the biochemical and environmental triggers known to accelerate skin ageing.

Resurfacing: “advanced powder formula that activates upon contact with water, releasing powerful enzymes and skin smoothing alpha hydroxy acids that deep cleanse the pores and help remove pollutants trapped in the skin.” So basically it vacuums up all the impurities in the pores and brings them to the surface.

The Daily Superfoliant is a daily detox from skin ageing pollution, it is gentle for daily use but also powerful to give immediate results which Moe and I have experienced. Every time we use the Daily Superfoliant we can definitely feel and see the difference.

Every day our skin is exposed to air pollution which is linked to signs of ageing such as hyperpigmentation like brown spots and uneven skin tone, fine dehydration lines like fine lines and wrinkles and all of this weakens the skin structure therefore increasing the skin’s sensitivity.

Airborne particles land on the skin and get lodged into the pores which causes inflammation and the free radical break down the skin’s natural lipid barrier increasing water loss, sensitised skin which results to signs of ageing and structural degradation. Ageing which is caused by inflammation is called ‘inflammaging’.

The Daily Superfoliant comes in a long round bottle with Dermalogica ‘d’ in which you pour out the powder. It is a black granular powder. I use this after cleansing, you take about half a teaspoon into wet hands but be careful because sometimes a bit more comes out as the opening is abit too big and once it is on wet hands it can’t be put back into the bottle as it is already activated. You then gently rub your hands together to create a creamy foamy paste (like magic 😊). Then apply to face and neck in circular motions avoiding the eye area. Massage gently and rinse thoroughly with warm water. It feels so gentle on our faces and leaves our skin feeling fresher, cleaner and it also looks more vibrant and healthy.

How does it work? The Daily Superfoliant contains ingredients that adsorb pollutants to help preserve the skin’s youthful structure making it look and feel softer and smoother. It contains:

  • Activated Binchotan Charcoal Powder- which attracts and binds itself to impurities and excess sebum in the skin pulling them out of the pores. So it’s like tiny magnets which go into the pores and pull the impurities to the surface.
  • Oryza Sativa (Rice Bran) Extract- when activated with water, enable dual-action chemical and physical exfoliation.
  • Malic Acid and Lactic Acid- exfoliate and resurface for ultra-smooth skin.
  • Red Algae and Tara Fruit Extract- helps preserve the natural barrier function.
  • Niacinamide- has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to prevent adhesion of pollution particles and prevent signs of ageing.

I have been seeing a lot of brands now coming up with products which protect and help the skin from environmental damage but this so far is our favourite product it is so unique and works well where you can actually feel the difference that it is making to the skin. We took the Daily Superfoliant with us on our recent travels and it helped a lot, using it after walking the streets of Phuket where our skin was exposed to scooter and tuk tuk fumes.

The Daily Superfoliant is non abrasive and can be used on all skin types especially for those concerned with ageing skin conditions. But when using it on sensitive skin only apply it on alternate days to first get the skin use to it and to prevent any inflammation. This is really the most innovative product which does wonders to the skin and everyone should get their hands on a bottle it’s really worth the price and lasts long when used correctly.

I thought it would be best to split my Dermalogica skincare routine into two parts as it will be too long to read all at once so this is the end of my cleansing routine. In part2 I will continue with the other three Dermalogica product reviews that form part of my daily skincare routine.
